A New Kind of Thanksgiving!
Thanksgiving has always been one of the most celebrated holidays in America, often rooted in the familiar story of Pilgrims and Native Americans coming together for a harvest feast. However, as I’ve grown in understanding, I’ve come to recognize that this story often overshadows the complex and painful realities of history. For many, the holiday represents not unity but a reminder of the injustices faced by Indigenous peoples.
As I reflect on this, I’ve chosen to redefine how my family and I approach this day—not as a celebration of a flawed historical narrative but as a time to express gratitude to Yahweh for His many blessings.
Shifting the Focus…
Rather than focusing on the traditional story, our Thanksgiving centers on heartfelt gratitude for the gifts we’ve been given. Yahweh has been so faithful to our family, and this day is a chance to pause and recognize His hand in every aspect of our lives.
I am deeply grateful for my husband, my partner in life, and the foundation of our family. Together, we’ve built a home filled with love, support, and shared dreams. Our children are a source of endless joy, and I see Yahweh’s hand in their growth, health, and unique gifts. Our successes as a family are not just measured in tangible accomplishments but in the lessons we’ve learned, the strength we’ve gained through challenges, and the opportunities to grow closer together. I’m especially thankful for the wisdom I’ve gained—both from experience and from Yahweh’s guidance. Passing these lessons on to my children is one of my greatest joys and responsibilities. This Thanksgiving, we’re not ignoring history—we’re choosing to learn from it and grow. We’re not celebrating a flawed narrative—we’re creating our own, centered on family, love, and the unending faithfulness of Yahweh. May this day, and every day, be a reminder to cherish what truly matters.
XOXO KAYE,
